You know where people with criminal intent like to brandish guns at people? Places without weapons. Hawaii now shows us once again that the progressive war on guns is less about fighting real crime and more about swindling the innocent out of a means of protection.
Currently, the Hawaii legislature is considering a bill that would ban guns in “sensitive” areas and require gun owners to receive explicit permission from owners to carry a gun on their property.
According JustTheNews.com who broke the story, House Bill 984 says ‘sensitive’ areas include ‘hospitals, schools, anywhere children congregate, places that sell alcohol, amusement parks, banks, public parks and homeless shelters and victims of domestic violence”.
Shit, not like the criminals who have entered banks, schools, liquor stores and hospitals with guns before. Smart move!
To make matters more difficult, it would also require responsible and legal gun owners to register their guns every four years and pay a $150 fee per gun.

Earlier in March, the House of Representatives had already passed the bill, and from there it was passed by the Senate Committee on Public Safety and Intergovernmental and Military Affairs last week.
According to the Attorney General of Hawaii, this bill results from the decision concerning the New York State and Pistol Association v. Bruen Supreme Court ruling last year.
“The Supreme Court’s Bruen decision represents a very significant and disruptive change for our state,” said Anne Lopez, the state’s attorney general. “In Bruen’s wake, many more people are applying for permits to carry a firearm. Under Bruen, such licenses must be granted unless there is an objective legal basis requiring denial. This will lead to a significant increase in the presence of firearms in public, with more individuals carrying concealed weapons in Hawaii than ever before in our state’s history. This presents serious challenges to public health and safety.
Does that pose a challenge though? Is it really? It seems more like legal, law-abiding citizens are just expressing their legal right, and because these anti-gun politicians aren’t happy with them, they have to create problems that don’t exist in order to legislate to make things right difficult.

Fighting a Bad Tendency
Hawaii is following a bad trend set by states like New Jersey and New York since the Bruen ruling. By “wrong” I really mean potentially illegal, which is the same conclusion U.S. District Court Judge Renee Marie Bumb came to when she filled a restraining order earlier this year that prevented the New Jersey to push the “sensitive areas” section of their law.
“The state can regulate conduct squarely protected by the Second Amendment only if it is backed by a historic tradition of gun regulation,” Bumb said in his decision. “Here, the defendants cannot demonstrate a history of firearms regulation to support these challenged provisions.”
Opponents of the Hawaiian bill, such as the Hawaii Firearms Coalition, are prepared to fight it legally in court if it passes.
“We are warning Hawaiian lawmakers that changes to our current laws that impact the Second Amendment will open the state and counties to lawsuits,” said coalition executive Andrew Namiki Roberts. “These will challenge not only the changes, but also current state laws and policies. Government lawyers, when questioned, are sure to claim to be able to defend the changes/laws, but history is not on their side. They spent hundreds of thousands of dollars without a single success.
