Bentley Engines announced its best annual operating profit and best vehicle sales for the second year in a row last year as part of its latest financial results.
The company posted a record operating profit of €708 million (A$1.12 billion) in 2022, an increase of €319 million (A$506 million) over the previous year.
Bentley too sold a total of 15,174 vehicles last yearit is the first time that the brand has sold more than 15,000 cars in one year.
Return on sales soared to 20.9% in 2022, up 7.2% from 2021. Bentley says this is due to customers choosing higher specification vehicles, more of options and the sale of vehicles in limited edition and in bodywork.
THE Bentley Bentayga The SUV continues to be the brand’s best-selling vehicle, accounting for 42% of total sales in 2022. It was followed by the Continental GT and GTC with 31 percent of the model lineup, and the flying spur which accounted for 28% of Bentley’s total sales.
“Since the low point of 2018, the entire Crewe team has worked intensively to restructure the business model, alongside the successive launch of new segment-leading models and features,” said Adrian Hallmark, CEO of Bentley Motors.
“Last year marked an important milestone in this journey.”
“A nearly €1 billion turnaround in profits has been achieved since 2018 despite an unprecedented period of disruption and crises, including Brexit, Covid, semiconductor supply, Ukraine and Europe. British economic instability,” he added.
As recently reported, Bentley plans to offer only plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and electric (EV) vehicles by 2026 as it prepares to go all-electric by 2030.
The British car manufacturer recently announced that it end of production of its W12 engine in April 2024, and will ship it with the ultra-exclusive Batur.
Bentley previously pledged to reveal its first EV in 2025 and put it on the market in 2026.
Foreign reports indicate that the first electric vehicle will be an SUV, potentially a version of the next Bentayga or possibly an all-new nameplate.
It could even be built on the PPE platform that will underpin the Porsche Macan EV, Audi Q6 etronand the Audi A6 etron.
