According to a government report, statues of “powerful, old and able-bodied white men” such as the Duke of Wellington and Lord Nelson could be “offensive” to Wales’ more diverse modern population. The report, which is expected to be approved later this month, recommends that statues, plaques and paintings honoring these historical figures be moved or covered or destroyed. He also recommends that the names of streets and places honoring these men be changed to avoid offending and to better reflect the nation’s current diversity.
