If you love cars and occasionally find yourself on Facebook or Reddit, you might have come across something strange lately. A curious post popped up in both places on March 6 asking people to ‘hang out’ with our son, and you can probably guess why. date is in quotes. For our purposes, this crazy request comes with the promise of a free low-mileage Buick Regal in exchange for said services.
The average person might find this a bit amusing, but if you’re a real car enthusiast like us at Motor1.comyou may have thought hey, is that a supercharged Buick Regal GS? The interior looks like leather, and if it’s truly rust-free with only 40,000 miles, it’s a late Radwood-era sleeper-keeper. It had 240 horsepower in stock trim, but a pulley and tune could turn these sedans into performance monsters. So, a few dates to bring a young man out of his shell seems like a pretty good job. LAW?
Of course it’s not fair, and by that we mean too good to be true. After doing the rounds on Redditthis simple post turned out to be a viral marketing ploy for a new Jennifer Lawrence movie titled No strong emotions. In the film, JLaw plays Maddie, an Uber driver whose car is repossessed, and well, you can imagine the plot from there. She responds to the ad to go out with a socially awkward 19-year-old named Percy (played by Andrew Feldman) for the summer, at her parents’ request.
A decidedly unsafe video trailer for work for the movie recently hit the internet, confirming the Buick proposal is indeed purely fictitious. As for the film, Lawrence’s character commits to “brain dating,” and from there, the hilarity ensues. At least, that’s what we deduce from the trailer. Honestly, we’re still trying to figure out if it’s a Regal GS or not.
Maybe if Mrs. Lawrence reads this, she can send us a tip on what’s under the hood (of the car, you perverts). And there’s always an invitation to discuss the Regal (and the movie) on our Rambling About Cars podcast.
Seek No strong emotions hit theaters this summer.
