Already one of the best deadlifts in the world, Browner looks set for yet another pull-up achievement.
Some lifters start a deadlift set or training with a modest goal. They operate with a mindset of doing any kind of progress once their dumbbell East clutched. Deadlift dynamo Jamal Browner probably does too, but he usually takes his pulling prowess to another ridiculous level.
On March 14, 2023, Browner shared an Instagram clip of himself tagging a 426.4 kilogram (940 pound) raw deadlift during a recent workout. The powerlifter donned just one lifting belt for the sweater and completed it from a conventional position while using a hook handle. Browner (110 kg) is the current world record holder for the raw deadlift with a pull of 455 kilograms (1,003.1 pounds) at the 2022 United States Powerlifting Association (USPA) Pro Raw Championships. Given the obvious ease of this coaching lifted off the ground, it looks like more greatness is on the way.
Among today’s elite weightlifters, Browner’s deadlift skill remains mostly unmatched. A personal best (PR) of 432.5 kilograms (953.5 pounds) of March 2022 illustrates as much. For an athlete who values how much weight he can pull off the ground, such milestones could be called gold.
Browner’s all-time raw deadlift world record (which was achieved from a sumo stance) made him the second weightlifter to pull at least 453.6 kilograms (1,000 pounds) during a an encounter full of raw powerlifting. The other competitor to be in such rare deadlift territory is Danny Grigbywho succeeded in the realization USPA Virginia Beach Classic 2022.
In addition to his deadlift record, Browner also holds the all-time gross world record in the 110 kilogram division. He landed an overall total of 1,052.5 kilograms (2,320.3 pounds) at the 2022 USPA Raw Pro, further cementing himself as one of the faces of weightlifting. Browner’s record notably made him leap over rival Derek Thistlethwaite, who initially passed Browner with a 2022 World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF) total gross of 1,002.4 kilograms (2,210.1 pounds). American Pro.
That said, being able to pull so much weight casually from a conventional stance is a significant step forward for Browner. The athlete has risen to prominence due to the power he exhibits while primarily using a sumo stance. It looks like breaking the 1,000 pound limit while lifting from a conventional stance could be the powerlifter’s next lofty goal.
When it comes to breaking records and seemingly defying gravity with his deadlifts, it’s probably more a matter of “when”, not “if”, Browner’s name is once again etched in the book. records. He’s a powerlifter used to redefining what’s possible with a barbell. At this point, rewriting the dictionary of forces is more of an expectation than a hope.
