Just weeks after Microsoft launched Chatbot powered by GPT-4 in its Edge browser, Opera is following suit and integrating generative AI chatbots powered by ChatGPT and ChatSonic into its Opera and Opera GX desktop browsers. These new tools are available in early access on all desktop platforms, the browser maker said.
Opera is also launching a feature that lets you generate AI prompts by highlighting text on a website or typing them. These chatbots can also summarize articles or web pages, write social media posts for you, or help you generate ideas through prompts. Users must manually enable “AI prompts” through settings to use this feature.
The company, owned by a Chinese consortium, also integrates ChatGPT and ChatSonic into the sidebar of its browsers. While ChatGPT can also work with text, Opera says ChatSonic’s bot – which is powered by GPT-4 – can also allow users to generate images from text input.
“AI-generated content is a game-changer for web browsing. Our goal is to use these technologies to give our users new browsing superpowers – reimagining the way they learn, create and search. Opera is actively expanding its artificial intelligence program in AIGC for browsers, news and gaming products through its own solutions and through new and existing partnerships,” said Opera Chief Product Officer Joanna. Czajka, in a statement.
The company said it plans to announce more AI-powered features in the future, powered by its own GPT-based model.
Given the popularity of generative AI, more browsers could follow suit and integrate some sort of AI-powered tools. Recently, Brave introduced summary features in its search offeringand the company said it was already experimenting with AI-driven features for its browser.
